Everything about medieval life was different from modern life. History books and television shows provide some insights into daily life during that era, but they only provide a snapshot, not the whole picture. Common misconceptions about the Middle Ages include that it was a time of strict social stratifications in the feudal system, widespread superstition, and primitive medical practices.
It has been argued that there were benefits to medieval life. At the outset, most regular people’s lives were uncomplicated, technology was scarce, and social ties were robust. Back when people still lived in close proximity to the outdoors, pollution was not a major problem. It’s possible that the lack of intense rivalry was another major perk of this era’s existence.
Of course, the era wasn’t completely trouble-free and sunny. The rigidity of the social classes made it impossible for young people to realize their full potential. Neither the son nor the daughter of a poor peasant could ever hope to rise to prominence, and for many, abject poverty was an inevitable companion for life. Once upon a time, the so-called noblemen of society ruled over the commoners however they saw fit. Due to this, regular people’s lives were frequently difficult. Moreover, entertainment options were very restricted, and those at the bottom of society had little to no access to basic services.
I’d love to have seen that time period firsthand for a few months, maybe a year, but I wouldn’t want to spend the rest of my life there. I like my current lifestyle and would not want to uproot my life and go to an earlier era when I am aware that technology had not yet advanced and there would be few comforts to which I could look forward.
